TGS: My mega frustration explained

09/17/2010 TGS: My mega frustration explained

TGS: My mega frustration explained screenshot

In my previous post , I briefly touched on my frustration with Capcom's upcoming Mega-man Universe However, it would seem that many of you - including me - wanted a little more. To be honest, I initially felt that what little footage you may have seen would really speak for themselves, but I get that it would probably help if I actually explained to my own experience and reasoning.

Join me after the break.

As I said, Capcom has a penchant for taking their classic games and is trying to reinvent them, with varying degrees of success. C Mega-man Universe , They 'E. revived their classic platformer from scratch - and this means that in order to recreate the original gameplay with new and "improved" engine.

Upon sitting down to play the demo, I immedaitely noticed that the jump response seemed a bit lagged -- which any Mega Man fan could tell you is integral and can lead to any number of untimely deaths. I originally chalked this up to the controller, but later found that others had experienced the issue on other set ups through out the show.

The gameplay issues are one thing,  but I also found the visuals a bit offensive. I know it might seem a bit silly to some of you, but I honestly feel that Capcom didn't show enough care when designing them -- which honestly blows my mind. Keiji Inafune even spent an hour the other evening telling a crowd that he wants every game to have that classic Capom feel, like it came out of Japan.  They often gets on Capcom USA's case for not living up to their expectations, but this title is being developed in Japan.

Big in Japan Sept. 6-12: One Piece: Gigant Battle

09/18/2010 Big in Japan 6-12 September: One Piece: Giant Battle

Namco Bandai's four-player brawler leads relatively uneventful week, as PSP tops hardware with 30,000 units sold.

Anime isn't exactly a small thing in Japan, so it's no surprise that this week's Media Create chart leader is based on one of the most popular animated series in the country. Namco Bandai's four-player brawler One Piece: Gigant Battle for the DS topped the Japanese stat-tracking firm's sales chart for September 6-12, selling 131,854 copies during its first few days of availability.

Monkey D. Luffy was always a high flier.

One Piece's six-figure debut was the only impressive start for games this week. The next two best-selling newcomers--D3 Publisher's VitaminX Evolution Plus and Irem's Sengoku Efuda Yuugi: Hototogisu Tairan--managed eighth- and 10th-place finishes, selling 7,975 units and 7,407 units, respectively.

As for the rest of the chart, Capcom 's very popular Monster Hunter franchise has proved its lasting power, as MonHun Nikki: Poka Poka Ailu Moore for the PSP won second place finish with 55,569 pieces. Nintendo and Namco Bandai has provided the rest of the top five, and Wii Party held a significant advantage over Ace Combat: a joint attack, and Metroid: Other M sold only 11,239 units during the second week.

The hardware chart offered little in the way of noteworthy performances, as the PSP assumed its usual pole position with 30,761 units sold. The PlayStation 3 followed with 19,907 units sold, with a Nintendo triple play of the DSi LL, DSi, and Wii falling in at third, fourth, and fifth. The DS Lite, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PSP Go all sold less than 5,000 units.

The 3rd Birthday to be celebrated on December 22 in Japan

09/16/2010 The 3rd Birthday to be celebrated on December 22 in Japan
A new entry in the Parasite Eve franchise has been long coming. Third birthday -- the first official sequel in the franchise since 1999 -- will be available in Japan at the very end of this year, on December 22nd. A US release is likely to follow some time in 2011. The third-person shooter arrives exclusively for PSP, joining the now-officially-announced Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix and Dissidia: Duodecim.

With so many high-profile Square Enix releases coming to PSP so close to each other, the company announced that there will be some kind of cross-promotional DLC across all three games. Specifics weren't mentioned, but you'll be able to unlock special costumes by owning multiple games.
